On 22 May 2026, the Strategic Forces Command successfully test-launched Agni-I from Chandipur and validated its operational and technical parameters. Two weeks earlier, India tested an Advanced Agni carrying multiple independently targeted re-entry payloads against spatially separated targets across the Indian Ocean Region. An Agni-III operational test followed on 6 February 2026, while the 24 September 2025 Agni-P rail launch demonstrated a canisterised rail-mobile option and confirmed that the road-mobile version had already been inducted. Spanning Agni-I through Agni-V and Agni-P, the family remains the core of India's land-based nuclear deterrent against Pakistan and China, with recent MIRV and mobility advances improving survivability and penetration capability.
